Meta-humanization reduces prejudice, even under high intergroup threat.

Meta-dehumanization, the perception your group has been given less than human qualities, contributes to a vicious cycle of outgroup dehumanization and hostility, such as hate crimes support for discriminatory policies. Minimal research investigated potential benefits meta-humanization, or perceiving dignified qualities. Across 7 studies (N = 1,261) in Canada United Kingdom, we focus on Muslim-non-Muslim relations provide first empirical evidence suggest that (a) there is an indirect effect meta-humanization through humanization reduces prejudice (b) perceived high intergroup threat moderates meta-humanization. Studies 1a 1b reveal mediates prejudice. 2a 2b replicate these results well demonstrate effect, Study 2c extends this by testing perspective Muslims. 3a 3b further interaction between interest contact.
